1965 Porsche 356C - Inquire - Scotts Valley, CA - 1965 Porsche 356C VIN: 219174 West Coast car Numbers matching 356 Club Magazine cover car Summer 2014 Complete with Kardex, books, tools, jack and spare Built in Zuffenhausen, Germany this US spec 356C was finished by the factory on July 8th 1964. It immediately made the long trip to the port of Los Angeles, and then up to Gardner Motors in Fresno, CA. Its first owner, Paul Hendrickson of Fresno, CA, purchased the car with his wife on October 20th 1964. Both were 59 when they bought the Porsche, and would own it until 1980. By 1980 the Hendricksons were 75 years of age and were having a difficult time getting in and out of the little car, so it found a new home with noted 356 restorer, Tim Goodrich of Grants Pass, Oregon. Goodrich would own the car for about four years before selling it to Mike Moran, also of Oregon. During his ownership the car would receive an external repaint, and then an engine rebuild by Tim Goodrich. Moran would own the 356C until 2001, showing it often at numerous 356 events. The next owner, Dave Hamann, who was an employee of Goodrich, purchased the car in 2001. He and is wife Cokie would participate in multiple PCA events with the 356C both in Oregon and California. Time came again in 2006 for the Porsche to find a new home, and it found one with Porsche expert and collector, Sam Cabiglio of California. He would have the fronts seats recovered in black leather by Autos International, and Bosch 6 volt H-4 headlamps installed. Other than the external repaint, seats and headlights this 356C is completely original. It still retains its original engine and transmission. All the glass is original, as is 95% of the trim, and the carpet and the headliner. It has never seen rust, and still has its original battery tray, floor, and factory undercoating. Since arriving at Canepa the 356C has been thoroughly inspected and serviced. It has received over 100 hours of concours level detail preparation, which included a complete hand cleaning from bottom to top, and 5 stages of polishing. The result is an exceptional example of the 356 Coupe that is ready for enthusiastic driving, or the concours lawn. 1965 Porsche 356C - Auction - Halstead, Essex - Introduced in 1963, the Porsche 356 C was an updated version of the type B, and was the final incarnation of the venerable type 356. There were numerous minor alterations to the fittings, the major changes being mechanical, including all round disc brakes which sat within new 15 inch wheels, along with improved suspension. Presented here is a 1965 model C Coup. This late model 356 benefits from the many upgrades that occurred throughout the model run, including disc brakes and a more powerful engine. The Signal Red paintwork is in excellent condition throughout, and the black interior looks factory fresh.Delivered new to California, this charming little 356 was was comprehensively restored and has seen very little use since. The interior is in excellent condition and showing little wear; and on closer inspection the underneath of this 356 is very clean indeed - an example of a well preserved 356 that has clearly enjoyed the dry Californian climate.Starting easily and settling to that familiar air-cooled idle, ample low-rev torque the car performs well. The disc brakes have reassuring reserve of power, feeling far more modern in their capability than is suggested by the 1960s origin of the car. In fine fettle, such as this example, it is clear why the 356 is the genesis of the rear-engine Porsche experience.

was the last year of production of the fabulous “356”

For Sale

1965 Porsche 356 C Coupe VIN 222038

Champagne Yellow Exterior with Green Leatherette Interior

PRICE $110,000

This is an exceptional 1965 Porsche 356 C coupe, with all numbers and colors matching, per the COA.  The car has only been driven a total of  54,xxx verifiable  miles and has been in dry storage in Denver since 1984, over 30 years.  There has only been one previous owner, the original, who purchased the new car in 1965 from a Porsche dealer in Chicago.  The car was transported to Denver, Colorado in 1975 and driven until 1984 and then stored and not driven.

General

I acquired the car from the original owner in 2014 after three years of negotiations with the owner and his former wife, who had possession of the car, and he had the title, it is a true 'garage find'.  After it was acquired, it was deicded to restore the car to street concours conditions rather than to leave the car in its original condition.  This was based on minor rust issues, poorly repaired minor collision damage to the right fender, coupled with the fact that the car had been in storage for so many years with almost no maintenance and the paint had deteriorated.  All of the exterior metal and the undercarriage metal, with exception of the hood which was replaced when the right fender was repaired, are original to the car.  Over $60,000 in restoration costs and several hundred hours were devoted to returning the car to its original condition.  The car was entered in the June 2015 Colorado Concours and Exotic Sports Car Show and won first place in the 356 class, scoring 239.5 out of a possible 240 points.  The car has been driven less than 200 miles since the restoration.  The original owner resides in Denver and is available to substantiate the provenance claims.

Body, Paint and Trim

In 2014 the exterior trim, bumpers, and all glass were removed and the exterior and bumpers were plastic media blasted.  This disclosed several, very minor, rust issues which were repaired as well as damage to the right fender.  All of the original under coating on the floor pan and fender wells was scraped off by hand.  Then, the usual re-paint process was commenced with metal preparation and finishing, epoxy primer, blocking and sanding until all panels fit and gaps were returned to factory specifications.  The paint work was completed by one of the most experienced 356 painters in the Rocky Mountain area, who is a national concours multiple Best of Show winner.  He also re-undercoated the floor pan, wheel wells, longitudionals, closing and related undercarriage panels.  The exterior paint was color matched using the color spectrometer at the Glasurit national headquarters.  The paint is exceptional and factory new and the gaps and panel fit are likewise exceptional.  All exterior chrome parts, i.e. hood handle, bumper guards, side glass and quarter glass frames and head light rings were re-plated to concours standards by famous Victor Miles.  New bumper and rocker trim was installed.

Engine

The original C Engine, P717366, was rebuilt by Storz Garage, Denver, Colorado, to include a top end overhaul and new rod bearings, valves, springs, guides.  The original cylinders were bored to 1720 cc to accommodate new 86mm JE pistons and rings, the heads were rebuilt, and all components were balanced.  The original Zenith carburetors and fuel pump were rebuilt and new gaskets and seals were installed.  The engine sheet metal and related components were re-painted to concours standards and all hardware was cad plated.  The original air cleaners were re-painted.

Transaxle

Original transaxle #85837 was inspected and found to be in very good operating condition and it was not rebuilt, however a new clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing were installed.

Interior and Glass

All of the seats, door panels, headliner, rear seating area, sun visors, carpets, garnish rails, dash cover and dash paint are original to the car and are in very good to excellent condition.  The dash cover was removed, a new thin pad installed and the original dash cover re-installed. The threshold step plates and trim pieces were replaced with correct new replacement parts.  New door seals were installed and a new windshield and new floor mats were installed.  All other glass is original and in very good condition.   The seat rail stands were re-painted and the seat rails, together with the related hardware, were re-plated.  The gauges were refurbished and calibrated and operate correctly.  The steering wheel was properly restored.

Steering, Suspension, Tires and Brakes

The brake calipers were rebuilt, the rotors turned and new Boge shocks were installed.  The wheels were carefully stripped and painted using correct silver Galsurit paint.  Five new Michelin tires, XZX 165 SR 15 were installed, balanced and an alignment was performed.  The five factory wheels are dated 1/65.  Please note - the front and rear suspension components and axle tubes were not restored.

Electrical

The lights and horns, which were restored, function properly as does the original Blauplunkt Frankfort radio.   New light bulbs were installed throughout.

Miscellaneous

The original and complete tool kit and restored jack, owners manual and car cover, and the original paint touch-up stick are included.  The two screwdrivers are after market reproductions.  The car is located in Denver, Colorado and is available for inspection.

A photo album, which shows the condition as the car was when found in storage, together with photos of the restoration process and current condition, is available at:
